Detlef Hartung (*1958) and Georg Trenz (*1962) live in Cologne and Munich and have been realizing joint light art projects since 1998. Their theme is the combination of light, space, and language. Using often multi-layered projections from several light sources, they create site-specific works on architecture and landscape with typographically designed
and moving texts or words. A visual, poetic reflection on the respective location and its context causes the apparent clarity of traditional perception to falter, opening up new possibilities for interpretation and creating intellectual
freedom. Language and space, light, and often the viewer are brought into play, literally allowing our surroundings to appear in a new light. The two artists began collaborating at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich as master students of Prof. Gerhard Berger. In addition to Germany, their works have been exhibited in Australia, Canada, Africa, Israel, and at numerous international light art festivals in Europe.
